At Laima International Training we pride ourselves on bringing the gold standard of training to our client base of media professionals and organisations.
We don’t just teach the principles of good media practice and journalism but are continuously developing our training syllabus to be in line with the latest challenges faced by those in our industry. Through our own analysis of media norms, online trends, and insights from the best in the industry, we bring distinctive, inspiring, and tailored course content to each of our clients. We truly believe there is no one who can do what we do: providing depth of insight to media personnel across the world in their own reporting language.
Like so many other careers, to be successful in the media today, it is necessary to develop skills in many areas. Whether working as an editor, journalist or researcher, recognising weaker areas and working to build them can be key to surviving in the industry. Here are some of the principal areas we teach and provide practical training in:
“Give me the fact, not your relationship to the fact” - a rule that should be so ingrained into a journalist that it becomes a reflex, rather than a reminder. Our training is designed to build and practise journalistic thinking and intuition until it is innate. The guiding principles of editorial standards and values are the bedrock of any media operation, and maintaining high standards of journalism brings value to the profession and the work we do. Whether reporting from a warzone or providing balance and impartiality to political debate, a journalist must learn to constantly re-align with editorial standards, values and laws.
The first rule in our industry is: Know your audience. We teach you: “How?” When you do not fit into the demographic you are trying to reach, it requires a strategic effort to understand, know and reach your audience with the impact to meet your engagement goals. We will show you the latest tools and methods for audience analysis and how to translate those insights into meaningful content and messaging.
Digital technologies have changed our industry so much over the last ten years many work practices would be unrecognisable to those we use today. Each year there are new digital tools and developments that improve and streamline our work and the way we interact with our audience. Digital spaces have transformed our abilities as media practitioners by providing better tools for workplace organisation, reporting and interaction with the audience. Additionally, the expectations and views of our audience continue to change at a rapid pace inline with the shifts in digital trends. This is why regular bite-sized training in digital tools is essential not only to keep your skills sharp but to stay ahead of the curve in media practice.
Learning to plan and execute a good interview is part of the essential toolkit for journalists and producers alike. Along with providing challenging and diverse opportunities to practise and build experience in interviewing, we also teach delegates how to build and orchestrate debates, handle sensitive subjects and manage a political interview.
What makes a great story? Our approach to teaching this subject starts with an audience-focused approach to answering this question. We facilitate exercises that will teach the principles of writing powerful news stories which audiences want to share. This includes the building blocks of the process of sourcing, writing headlines, and producing news stories. In addition to these essentials in news storytelling we also provide specialist training in the latest techniques in investigative reporting, data journalism and covering overseas current affairs.
The challenges journalists face continue to evolve with the advent of AI technologies. At Laima we have a particular focus on training journalists how to identify and deal with AI and deep fake, as well as offering training on the latest editing and technical skills. From project planning to the art of editing, technical skills are essential in content production. Whether you want to get to grips with the basics or develop advanced skills in editing with animation, graphics and AI, we have the technical knowhow and practical courses to fit your training needs.
Creating a change, whether as a team leader or in your career path, starts with a mindset that is motivated and committed to your goals. Developing this mindset takes preparation, consistency and a strategic approach that we teach through a series of exercises and tools specific to career goals and working in this industry. Through our large network of media professionals, executives, and leaders, we offer bespoke mentoring and coaching opportunities to our delegates.
Laima International Training programmes have expert input and guidance from leading educational researchers, who study the thinking processes involved in learning and teaching. We apply the science and techniques learned from leading research in our course formats and style of teaching.
The aim of our programmes at LIT is to develop the knowledge, thinking and skills required for improving individual performance in your career. We provide you with training which incorporates a rich and profound understanding of learning and thinking. The result for those attending our classes will be an evident development in their working, leading, and communication.
